Oromo, also known as Oromifa or Afaan Oromoo, is a Cushitic language spoken by the Oromo people in Ethiopia and parts of Kenya, Somalia, and Egypt. The language is divided into several different dialect clusters, and within these clusters, there are variations due to regional differences. Oromo is characterized by its use of the Latin script and a unique system of "gadaa" for verb conjugations. Oromo is rich in oral tradition, with a strong tradition of folklore, music, and poetry, playing a key role in the cultural life of the Oromo people.
Oromo is mainly spoken in the Oromia region of Ethiopia and in parts of northern Kenya. In North America, Oromo-speaking communities are part of the larger East African diaspora. These communities, often formed by immigrants and refugees, are found in urban areas with significant African populations, like Minnesota, Washington, and California.
